Small Space? No Problem! How to Throw a Great Party with Limited Room
Living in a small space doesn't mean you have to give up hosting. In fact, it means your next event is bound to be intimate and creative. Not sure how to fit your guests into your apartment? No problem. Here's everything you need to know to make the most out of your space.
How to Throw An Unforgettable Party in a Small Space
Curate Your Guest List: The biggest thing you can do to keep your party space from feeling crowded is to limit the number of guests you invite. Is it really that important for your great aunt's husband's cousin to attend? If not, leave them off the list.
Spread Out: Embrace all of your space. Don't limit your guests to the living room: open up the rest of your house as well. Make the bed and put up string lights in the bedroom for an inviting conversation spot. Set a small table out on the balcony or in the hallway. Encourage your guests to hang out wherever they feel comfortable.
Reorganize: Not interested in having guests in your bedroom? That's not a dealbreaker. Make the most of the space you do want to use by reorganizing. Move as much furniture as possible out of your living room. Get rid of any clutter hanging around. Create as much space as possible for your guests to mingle.
Grab a Seat: If your space is small, it's likely your seating options are limited. That doesn't mean your guests need to spend the evening standing. Grab throw pillows, blankets, and the cushions off your couch to create casual seating areas. Reserve dining chairs for guests who may be less able to get up and down off the floor. Encourage everyone else to enjoy the party picnic-style.
Minimize Mishaps: Let's face it: with lots of guests in a small space, you're going to have some spills. Unfortunately, in a small space little party mishaps can also lead to big problems. Reduce the risk of injuries caused by broken glass by using unbreakable cups.
Use Your Fingers: Have you ever tried cutting into a chicken breast while balancing a paper plate on your knee? Not recommended. Keep things simple for your guests by serving finger foods. Cheese and veggie platters, mini quiches, samosas, and bite size pieces of protein on toothpicks are all easy to eat in any position.
Keep an Eye on the Heat: Small spaces can quickly hit big temperatures when lots of guests are inside. Make note of the ambient temperature as the party goes on. Don't hesitate to prop open a window if things get uncomfortably warm. If you know your apartment tends to overheat, consider nixing any food options that require the oven.
Don't let a small space keep you from hosting! Make great use of the space you have and you'll throw an event that no one can forget.
